I love teaching art, sharing the magic of a visual vocabulary with my students. Teaching drawing and painting is about learning art skills (which I specialize in), but it is also about learning to see, to open the mind to different experiences and the heart to deep felt feelings. It is about translating all that onto paper and canvas and sometimes 3-D media. Being a practicing artist as well as an arts educator allows me to understand my students and to help them develop their own voices. I am not interested in simply teaching them to do work just like mine, but rather to explore their own styles and inspirations. I have been offering art inspiration through arts education since the 1980s.

About Teaching Art
The job of art teachers is to accept students for who they are and what they create. Art students process their feelings, tell stories, make sense of political and social turmoil, and express their inner worlds through their artwork. When a student shares their work, they are also sharing a part of their identity, which takes a risk! Art gives context to big feelings, and art teachers can offer resources for ideas. We validate and accept students just as they are.
